RECESS MEETING OF AUGUST 9, 1999

 

A Recess Meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ocean Springs was called to order by Mayor Ainsworth at 7:00 p.m. on August 9, 1999, at City Hall in the City of Ocean Springs. Present were Aldermen Jalanivich, Garrard, McDonnell, Cody, Cosper, McKay and Gill, City Attorney Oscar Jordan and City Clerk Adrienne Howell.

Alderman Cody gave the Invocation.

Mayor Ainsworth led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The first item taken up for consideration was the Consent Agenda:

Approve minutes of Regular Meeting of August 3, 1999

Accept Public Works Director’s recommendation to award the annual bid for 5HP, 3 Phase, Submersible Sewer Pumps to Gibson Electric in the amount of $2,657.00 each***

Accept Public Works Director’s recommendation to authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the necessary drainage repairs at Halstead Rd. and Linda Circle with specifications drafted by Moran, Seymour & Associates and to assess all costs to Hancor Pipe***

Accept Building Report for July 1999

Authorize Mayor to sign Answer regarding confirmation of title suit filed on behalf of Robert M. Daley (Cause No. 99-1869PW)

Pay Docket of Claims and spread docket summary upon the Minutes***

Item e was removed from the Consent Agenda for further consideration.

Motion by Garrard, seconded by McDonnell, to approve the Consent Agenda, excluding item e.

Department Reports

Motion by Garrard, seconded by McDonnell, to authorize the Mayor to work in conjunction with the Police Chief and the extra manpower from the State to coordinate any overtime efforts that the law enforcement will have to provide during problems associated with the temporary closing of the I110 bridge.

Motion by McKay, seconded by Cody, that the City Planner follow up and get pertinent information, bid specifications or whatever else is necessary regarding a pedestrian warning system for Hanshaw Rd. so that the Board can make a valid decision on whether or not to include it in the budget.

Motion by Garrard, seconded by McDonnell, to schedule the public hearing on the FYE 2000 Budget for August 30, 1999, at 7:00 p.m.

City Clerk Adrienne Howell reported she had received notice of resignation from Meter Reader Deborah Hebert on Friday, August 6, 1999.

Motion by Cody, seconded by McDonnell, to accept the resignation of Meter Reader Deborah Hebert.

Motion by Garrard, seconded by Cody, to authorize the City Clerk to begin the process to fill the meter reader position and to also solicit alternatives for the job.

Motion by Cody, seconded by McDonnell, to accept the City Clerk’s recommendation to amend the FYE 1999 Tobacco Fund Budget by transferring $7,320.00 from the Tobacco Fund Cash Balance to the Tobacco Fund Personal Services account.

(Sewer Line Rehabilitation Letter)

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Cody, to authorize the City Clerk to advertise bids for sewer line rehabilitation with specifications provided by Moran, Seymour and Associates.

Audience Request

June McSween of Queen Elizabeth thanked the City and contractors for the drainage improvements on her street.

After some discussion regarding item e of the Consent Agenda, the following motion was made:

Motion by Jalanivich, seconded by Gill, to approve item e of the Consent Agenda.

Motion by McDonnell, seconded by Gill, that the City Attorney be authorized to interact with E-Z Store regarding the conveyance of property to the City for landscaping purposes.
